Insights Canvas: Layout & Options

The Layout & Options tab available when editing Insights Canvas elements provides you with a number of settings for making look & feel adjustments.

The available layout & options settings will vary depending on the type of element that you are working with. For example, the settings available in a Shape element will differ from those available for a Question Chart element.

Access Layout & Options

To access a specific element's Layout & Options tab, edit the element with the pencil icon and click on Layout & Options.

Below, we will cover all available Layout & Options settings and provide a list of elements that are compatible with that setting.

Order (z-Index)

This property specifies the stack-order of an Insights Canvas element. An element with greater stack order (shown as a number) is always in front of an element with a lower stack order. While this sounds pretty complex, the idea is quite simple.

For example, if you have a Shape with a z-index of 2 and Text with a z-index of 1 occupying the same area of your canvas, the shape will show in front of the text due to its higher z-index.

To place the text in-front of the shape, edit the text element and assign a higher z-index than that of the shape, i.e. 3. Now the text will be placed in front of the shape due to the text element's higher z-index.

Note: Each new element that you add to your Insights Canvas will have a higher order (z-index) than the last added element. You can adjust the order at any point after adding an element.

3. Make sure to Save your changes.
